Urban cold logistics during the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games

During the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Paris will see its urban logistics transformed. The refrigeration logistics sector will have to continue to ensure food distribution for the people of the Paris region, while managing the logistics of supplying the Games in a context of traffic restrictions and changes. The « last mile of cold » (the last segment of the delivery chain from an order to the end customer) will be a real challenge.

In this context, passive cold logistics by cargo bike (cyclo-logistics) could well find a place to develop in the context of the Olympic Games, but also for the future of major urban areas such as Paris.

Development of cyclo-logistics with Colis Activ'

colis activ'

References: Colis Activ’

The Colis Activ’ programme is helping to develop this type of logistics by offering a bonus for parcels delivered, to make this delivery method more attractive and more competitive. A directory, compiled by Colis Activ’, bringing together the main players in urban logistics by cargo bike has been created to centralise them.

Colis Activ’ also presents the advantages of passive refrigeration for delivering fresh produce by bike.

What is passive cold?

Passive cold involves combining an insulated container with previously frozen cold plates. These cold plates, also known as eutectic plates, release the cold stored inside the isothermal container and thus act as a cold engine. Depending on the formulation chosen, these plates can generate negative cold (for transporting frozen products) or positive cold (for transporting fresh products). Totally autonomous, this method of refrigeration does not require a thermal or electric refrigeration unit, as is the case with active refrigeration. For more information, visit our guide to passive refrigeration.

How do you find a "cyclo-logistics AND passive cold" solution?

COLD & CO, a specialist in the last-mile cold chain for 15 years, has designed and offers logistics professionals a range of autonomous refrigerated isothermal containers called CarryTemp, which can be adapted to cargo bikes and are ATP-certified.

This cost-effective, lightweight solution can take over from refrigerated lorries to get into the heart of city centers, LEZs (low-emission zones), pedestrianised streets and traffic-restricted lanes, typically for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The CarryTemp XL9 has a useful volume of 900L and fits perfectly with Fleximodal’s Bicylift.

Cyclo-logistics and soft delivery modes: what solutions to deliver fresh products?

The COVID-19 event accelerated a changing logistics: home delivery. The energy transition had already pushed the development of soft deliveries with 3 objectives: Decongestion of the city centre; Reduction of noise pollution; Reduction of gases, pollutants and particulates related to fuel consumption. In the case of food e-commerce, an additional dimension is added: cold chain […]

Covid: the invention of a start-up in Montpellier to respect the cold chain in vaccine transportation

Transport of the vaccine against COVID-19  France 3 Occitanie presents the association of a pharmaceutical isothermal bag with a traceability of temperature maintenance: A temperature recorder from KOOVEA combined with MedicalCase medical coolers from COLD & CO. Millions of doses of Covid vaccines are currently being shipped around the world. This is a challenge for transporters who

Transport at controlled ambient temperatures between +18°C and +25°C: a logistical challenge for medical devices

The +18°C to +25°C thermal challenge at the heart of medical logistics When it comes to transporting in vitro diagnostic medical devices (IVDMDs), certain entities face a very specific challenge: maintaining a strictly controlled temperature between 18°C and 25°C, whatever the season. In winter as in summer, this requirement for thermal stability is crucial to

Protecting temperature-sensitive chemicals: when logistics becomes a key factor in performance

In the world of specialty chemicals, formulation stability does not end with their design in the laboratory. Transportation, often perceived as a standard logistical link, becomes a critical issue when products are heat-sensitive. This is the case for a French manufacturer specializing in the distribution of varnishes, paints, and resins for finishing flexible materials. It

Developments in cold transport, the solution through the container

COLD & CO presents its logistical innovations for the transport of heat-sensitive products in the October 2019 issue of Informations Entreprise.   The cold chain represents about 15% of transport flows. Whether pharmaceutical or food products are transported internationally, regionally or locally, temperature-sensitive goods flows require a guarantee that temperatures are respected from the first to the

Protecting varnishes and paints from the cold: the unexpected ally of the fine chemistry sector

In the fine chemistry sector, some formulations are extremely sensitive to temperature variations. This is particularly the case for varnishes, paints and glosses for textiles and leather, used in particular for finishing edges and delicate surfaces. These products, often packaged in small bottles of 100 mL to 1 L, must never go below 5°C, sometimes
